"But I don't like skiing..."
If you're absolutely sure you don't like skiing (and you have to have tried five times to be certain) then don't panic, there are tons of other ways to work up a sweat in the cold and even more ways to avoid doing anything of the sort.
Winter Mountain Biking
Winter mountain biking is huge fun, if not terribly easy on the legs. The idea, not surprisingly, is exactly the same as mountain-biking but done in the snow with spiked tyres to stop you from falling off three times per pedal. Pac Sports organise this, rent you a bike and plan the routes carefully to ensure a healthy ratio of uphill panting and downhill “WHEEEE!”ing. The rosy-cheeked glow is included in the price so all you need to provide is a broad smile to go with it.
Contact us when you book or just pop in and see Pac-Sports at Bohinj.
Ice-climbing
For the more extreme winter types Slovenia's many waterfalls provide a wealth of ice-climbing opportunities. Experienced climbers might want to hook up with an Pac Sports or Life Trek expert to hire kit and to ask for the best places to go; the rest of us mere mortals will probably prefer the safety of their qualified instruction and supervision. Ice is, after all, quite slippery and therefore not easy to climb. You can contact Pac or Life Trek to arrange the climbing yourself via their website.
Paragliding
Just as in the Summer, winter paragliding is available above Lake Bohinj if you stay at the Farmhouse and Kanin for guests at the Retreat. The views at both are genuinely mind-blowing but make sure you wrap up nice and warm because the height and the wind combined is enough to damage a brass monkey. Pac-sports, Life Trek both offer tandem flights but be sure not to leave it until the last day because if the weather turns or if the wind gets too strong you'll have missed out on some great memories. For more information contact them direct or drop us an email and we can fill you in on this and all the other activities.
