Golf & Riding Opportunities

Lake Bled's Superb Golf Course

An excellent par 73 Kings Course with a superb club house sits just outside Bled. Try not to be put off your swing by the beautiful snow capped Alps lazing in the back ground, but if you are, you can always head back to the driving range or hire a PGA Pro to help you regain your focus. The club has plenty of equipment for hire including hand trollies and electric buggies. Green fees for 18 holes start from just €59 and the wonderful facilities, great course and superb scenery ensure you'll have a great round even if you're well over par. Oh, and there are plenty of T-offs, so no hanging around and ladies are welcome.

To enjoy this great golf location, stay with us at The Farmhouse. We can arrange everything for you, including transport.

Horse Riding

For riding enthusiasts and trivia fiends, Slovenia's biggest claim to fame in the equine world is that it has the original breeding stables for Lipizzaner horses. These short, pale horses, bred over many centuries from a combination of Arabian, Andalusion, Spanish and local working horses, are the same as those which train and perform at the renowned Spanish riding school in Vienna, their famously strong hind legs allowing them to perform dressage in a way that no other horse can.

There are stables near both the Retreat and the Farmhouse which offer lessons or trail riding on pure-bred Lipizzaners for riders of all levels. We are happy to organise days there for you either when you book or when you arrive. The really keen riders may want to think about a day trip to the Lipica stud farm to watch a performance and get lessons from the masters themselves. If you are a horse lover, this really should be in bold at the top of your list of things to do.

Prices for riding near the Farmhouse start at around €40 for two hours. Click here to visit the Lipica Stud Farm's website.

Bird Watching

The Slovenian countryside is sparsely populated and mostly wooded with mixed woodland, predominately beech. It offers excellent opportunities for bird watching at all levels and is home to the unique three-toed woodpecker.

Bear Watching

Yeas, really! Slovenia has one of the largest bear populations in Europe. There are currently 7 tagged bears within the Triglav National Park and a steady population of over 30 bears in the Kočevje region south of Ljubljana. Organised tours can be arranged to go Bear Spotting!
