Holidays in Slovenia

Lake Bled & Lake Bohinj

Lake Bled.

"Lake Bled is insanely pretty, with limpid turquoise water and a fairy-tale church."
- The Telegraph.

Bled is just five minutes from The Farmhouse and has been attracting tourists for 1000 years.

"Lake Bohinj typifies the alpine ideal. Impossibly still and reflecting an amphitheatre of jagged peaks."
- The Telegraph

Timeless romance.

People have been falling in love with Lake Bled for over a thousand years. 1004 is the first recorded mention of the castle which sits high on the cliff above the lake offering jaw dropping views of the lake below.

Four hundred years later a church was built on Slovenia's only natural island in the middle of the lake. It has proved a hotspot for weddings from all over Europe. Legend has it that if the groom succeeds in carrying his wife up the ninety nine steps to the church they will have a long and happy marriage and Slovenia's low divorce rate is a testament to just how strong Slovenian men are.

Six hundred years on and countless couples and families from all over the world have visited Bled and fallen in love with the mystery and romance. There are excellent cafes, restaurants, boutique shops, horse drawn carriage rides, boat trips to the island church, outdoor sports and always in the background the glistening lake and the snow capped Alps.

Lake Bohinj and Triglav National Park

Big Beauty.

At the opposite end of the valley sits Lake Bohinj signalling the end of the road. Grand and dramatic and surrounded on three sides by a wall of mountains, Bohinj has kept its raw beauty thanks to stringent development restrictions in Triglav National Park. Very much Lake Bled's more imposing older brother, Lake Bohinj offers a ludicrously wide range of activities ranging in adrenaline level from a relaxing swim in the lake to giant kicker ramps in the snowboard park and everything in between.
